Street Excavation Permit
WHO CAN APPLY: Only licensed and bonded contractors with the city of Bridgeport may apply for a street excavation permit. The city will not accept expired documents. Permit fee is 250 dollars.
Things you will need and requirements:
- Exact address of work/Cross street/ Near side or far side of St./Type of work/Linear feet of excavations/ Cbyd reference Number/Traffic Plans must be submitted/ Date of work/
- You must reach out to the permits Department to schedule pre inspection and post inspection.
- You must contact the overtime police office to schedule officers for traffic control.
- You may only use certified flaggers when you attempt to call overtime office and they do not have officers available.
- If you will be doing work by traffic signals and are going to put the signals in flash you must notify the Engineering Department 24 hours in advance.
Traffic plans must include:
- The traffic plan must show a legend for all symbols being used. As well as road and pedestrian plan when blocking both street and sidewalk .Show the position of all traffic control devices required, spacing of such devices and other critical dimensions such as width of pedestrian walkways, travel lanes, work area.
- Roads may not be closed unless granted by public facilities.
Requirements for restoration:
- Permit and Traffic plans must be on site at all times.
- A materials and/or compaction test, paid by the applicant, shall be required where the depth of opening, materials or other conditions warrant.
- The director of public facilities or his/her designee shall have discretion on adherence to this section and at times may enforce stricter requirements based on the nature of work.
- Final restoration will take place as soon as practical under industry standards, but in no case any later than six months from the date of the patch.
- Highway line striping on all roads requiring same shall be restored at the expense of the applicant according to city standards, as will any signage or signalization structures. Temporary pavement markings are required when permanent markings cannot be applied due to weather or when duration of time exceeds one week. All permanent marking must be applied as soon as possible. At no time will a paved area be left unmarked for longer than two weeks.
- All patches must be saw cut and when doing final restoration all edges must be sealed.
