Urban Canopy
Overview
The Sustainability office works in collaboration with the Tree Warden, Parks and Recreation, and our non-profit partners to maintain and expand Bridgeport's urban canopy.
Expanding and creating a thriving canopy helps reduce stormwater issues, heat waves, and supports ecosystems; creating healthy, economically, and environmentally vibrant neighborhoods. A thriving urban canopy will help the city reduce and mitigate the impacts of climate change.
Trees provide us enormous benefits: They provide places to live for bees and birds, shade to our homes and to play in the park. Trees also help keep the soil in place, help reduce stormwater in our streets, and clean our water by taking in chemicals and contaminants.
An urban canopy is the organization of all leaves, branches, and stems that shield the ground when viewed from above.
