The City of Bridgeport is committed to ensuring that no person is excluded from participation in, or denied the benefits of its transit services on the basis of race, color, or national origin, as protected by Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color, or national origin in any program or activity that receives federal financial assistance. This means that small businesses that receive federal funding or assistance cannot discriminate against individuals on the basis of these protected characteristics. Small business owners who receive federal funding or assistance must ensure that their policies and practices do not result in discrimination, and must take steps to address any complaints of discrimination that arise. Failure to comply with Title VI can result in loss of federal funding and other penalties.
