Chief Roderick Porter
Bridgeport Police Chief Roderick Porter has thirty-six years of Law Enforcement experience; thirty of which were served with the Bridgeport Police Department, rising through the ranks until ultimately becoming Chief of Police in December 2022. Chief Porter is an Associate Professor of Criminal Justice Studies at Post University.
Chief Porter is married to Mrs. Nicole Porter, and they have one adult son. He has been a resident of the City Bridgeport since 1989, currently residing in the cities Upper East Side Neighborhood. He has volunteered as a coach in the cities Police Athletics League, North End Little League, and Boy Scouts of America Troop 103. Chief Porter has received several community honors and awards from various organizations.
Chief Porter holds both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree from Springfield College and is a Graduate of the FBI National Academy at Quantico, located in Virginia. He also graduated from the Police Executive Research Forum at Harvard University, the Sacred Heart University Command Institute, and Tunxis Community College Police Leadership Institute. Chief Porter has completed various other Professional Development Training's including, two FBI LEEDA Sessions. Chief Porter completed his master’s degree Thesis Research Project, learning and understanding the Cause and Effects of Urban Youth Violence and Crime. Concluding that, the lack of a quality education, environment, and untreated exposure to trauma are contributing factors. Chief Porter has been accepted to Capella University's Doctoral of Human Service and Leadership Program. Chief Porter has held memberships in the FBI National Academy Associates, Police Executive Research Forum, Bridgeport Guardians, National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives, NABLEO, and Local 1159. He is also a member of Pi Gamma Mu of the National Honor Society for academic excellence.
Chief Porter’s core policing beliefs are rooted in radical standards of engagement, transparency, accountability, and honesty. Prior to becoming Chief of Police his most rewarding assignment was leading the Community Services Division, where he enjoyed the division's various community outreach and engagement efforts, particularly those involving the city's Youth. During Roderick's tenure he oversaw the Police Department's partnerships with the Board of Education’s School Security. During this time, he oversaw the creation of the Safe Schools Corridor Program, which morphed into the development of the departments Real Time Crime Center. Additionally, this partnership saw an 84% reduction in school-based arrests.
Chief Porter looks forward to using all his knowledge, and education to provide nothing but the best for his community. He looks forward to the future of serving the City of Bridgeport as the Chief of Police.
