Updated Booster:
The latest booster is referred to as "updated" because it offers protection against the latest circulating variant, in this case, the Omicron subvariant XBB.1.5. Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna, two COVID-19 vaccine manufacturers, have developed these updated boosters.
- Everyone aged 6 years and older should get 1 updated Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna COVID-19 vaccine to be up to date.
- Children aged 6 months–5 years who have previously been vaccinated against COVID-19 will be eligible for one or two doses. Children who have not been previously vaccinated will be eligible for up to three doses.
- People aged 65 years and older may get a 2nd dose of the updated Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna COVID-19 vaccine four or more months after the 1st updated COVID-19 vaccine.
- People who are moderately or severely immunocompromised may get additional doses of the updated Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna COVID-19 vaccine two or more months after the last updated COVID-19 vaccine.
