The Office of the City Attorney advises and represents the City, its officers, employees, municipal agencies, boards and commissions in all civil legal matters involving the City. The Office of the City Attorney prosecutes and defends civil actions to which the City is a party in state court, federal court and in administrative hearings. In addition, the Office of the City Attorney is responsible for issuing legal opinions, reviewing and drafting contracts and ordinances, performing collection services for the City’s Tax Collector and the Water Pollution Control Authority (WPCA), supervising outside counsel, and performing various risk management functions in conjunction with the Department of Finance.
