What is radon?

A natural gas that can cause lung cancer, it’s important to test your home for radon. It is odorless, invisible, and without taste—can not be detected by human senses.

How to test for radon in your home

You can purchase a low cost test kit from the American Lung Association of New England. Call 1-800-LUNG-USA  (1-800-586-4872) or visit lung.org.

What homes are at higher risk?
Can enter your home through: 
Floor cracks 
Floor-wall joints
Sump pits
In closed spaces, like basements, radon can build up to high levels

DIY Kits 
Pick up DIY kits to test your home at your local hardware store or online. Follow test material instructions which includes sending the kit to a Certified Radon Testing Lab and receive results in 5 – 7 days.  

Eligibility
Must be a home-owner living in the City of Bridgeport
The homeowner must be living in the home that they own 
Bridgeport residents looking to obtain a permit to build a new home in the city 

How to reduce your risk 
Seal cracks and holes found in walls, floors, and pipes.
