Bridgeport, CT – Today, Mayor Ganim announced that his administration is reinstating the Household Bulk Pickup Program, which will begin April 3, 2023 and continue through September 8, 2023. This program gives residents the opportunity to discard large items, such as furniture and appliances, that may be difficult to transport to the Transfer Station and are not part of regular weekly trash collection. The new program will be by appointment only, giving residents the flexibility to schedule their pickup at a time convenient for them.

Public Facilities has established a dedicated phone number to schedule such appointments (203-576-3950). A staff member will be able to accommodate all requests in both English and in Spanish. Residents must call to make an appointment starting March 6, 2023, and are allotted one appointment per year. A notice will also be mailed to taxpayers with instructions in English and Spanish, including what items may be put out for collection and the process for scheduling an appointment.

This popular city service, which is offered by some other municipalities, was discontinued many years ago by the City of Bridgeport. In an effort to address the high demand for bulk pickup services by residents, Mayor Ganim has reinstated the Household Bulk Pickup Program. This program is also part of a concerted effort by the administration to address illegal dumping in our neighborhoods.

Mayor Ganim stated, “Bulk pickup is one of the most common requests that we receive from residents in the Mayor’s Office and Public Facilities throughout the year. I am pleased that we have put together a plan to address the need of our residents for this important city service. I encourage residents to schedule their appointments as soon as possible due to high demand.”
