Mayor Ganim Announces New Route for St. Patrick’s Day Parade
Bridgeport, CT – Mayor Ganim in partnership with The Greater Bridgeport St. Patrick’s Celebration Committee announces its annual St. Patrick’ Day parade along Fairfield Avenue in the Black Rock section of Bridgeport. On Friday, March 17, 2023, the parade will start at 12:00PM from the Burroughs Community Center at the corner of Ellsworth Street and end at the corner of Courtland Avenue.
Fairfield Avenue from Wordin Avenue to Ash Creek will be closed from 10:30 AM to 1:30 PM for the parade. A parking ban will be in effect and cars along Fairfield Avenue will be towed.
The Bridgeport parade has been a tradition since 1983. Until the COVID-19 pandemic, the St. Patrick’s Day Parade has been held in Downtown Bridgeport from 1983-2019 under a plethora of changing weather conditions. “The St. Patrick’s Day Parade’s return to Bridgeport after three years, is a welcoming sign that life has resumed in Bridgeport,” stated Mayor Joe Ganim. “It is a great time for the Irish community and for all Bridgeport residents to enjoy and celebrate the diverse ethnic pride we have in our City.” Ganim added.
Mayor Ganim will host a press Conference for St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Thursday, March 16th at 10:00 AM at the Margaret E. Morton Government Center at 999 Broad Street. The following activities are scheduled for the day of the parade:
- 8:30 AM – Mass at St. Augustine Cathedral, 359 Washington Avenue, Bridgeport
- 9:30 AM – Flag Raising Ceremony, City Hall, 45 Lyon Terrace, Bridgeport
- 12:00 PM – Parade in Black Rock Starts at Burroughs Community, 2470 Fairfield Avenue (corner of Fairfield Avenue and Ellsworth Street) and travels down Fairfield Avenue and ends at the corner of Courtland Avenue
