Bridgeport, CT – Bridgeport is getting into the spirit of Earth Day with events for all ages. Residents will have the opportunity to participate in events such as a cleanup at Beardsley Park, maintaining newly planted trees at Seaside Park, attend Park City Music Hall’s Earth Day celebrations, and much more.

Mayor Ganim stated, “Although Earth Day brings out many new events in Bridgeport, I encourage residents to participate in ongoing projects and initiatives to help maintain our City’s environment. My hope is that Bridgeport residents can make the most out of this weekend and remain mindful of the many ways we can continue working towards protecting our planet.”

Ongoing initiatives in the City are as follows:

  • Celebrating over 250 trees planted within the City of Bridgeport throughout Beardsley, Seaside, Waterview, East Side, Black Rock, Hollow, West Side
  • Numerous community driven cleanups through Park City Pickin It Up
  • Habitat restoration at St.Mary’s by the Sea Ash Creek
  • New trees installed in Downtown with native plantings
  • Bioswales/Rain gardens in Downtown to reduce flooding
  • Pollinator gardens being installed in City
  • Greenhouse gas inventory, nearing completion
  • Complete Streets guide in development
  • Tree guidance document for residents
  • Adopt a tree program and adopt a rain barrel program
  • Support of community gardens across the City
  • Pequonnock River Trail
  • Recycling awareness campaign
  • LED upgrade projects (Energy Efficiency)
  • Hydrogen fuel cells
  • Waterfront access and redevelopment projects, Sliver by the River with TPL
  • Beautification and land rehabilitation at Helen Street lot
