Bridgeport, CT – This month, Scott Appleby, Director of Bridgeport’s Emergency Operations Center, received recognition from the International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM) for being among the group of professionals who has maintained the Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) designation. Appleby is one of 2,272 individuals in emergency management to currently receive the designation and has previously been qualified as a CEM after displaying a program of professional development over consecutive five-year periods. To earn and maintain this credential, professionals must submit a package providing personal and professional background achievements, partnered by completing a written examination. The CEM designation is a rigorous achievement to maintain and represents the highest honor or professional achievement to be presented by the IAEM with more than 6,000 members being a part of the Association.

Mayor Ganim stated, “I want to congratulate Scott Appleby for all the effort and dedication he’s made towards maintaining his Certified Emergency Manager designation. Bridgeport is very grateful to have someone like Scott to lead such a significant department that prioritizes the safety and wellbeing of our residents.”

“I am thrilled to have achieved my 15-year recertification with the International Association of Emergency Managers. My goal has been to align myself with the best of the best and continue to become better in this profession for the best City since I started in 1994,” stated Scott Appleby. “As a born and raised Bridgeport resident, I am very grateful for the opportunity and the support I continue to receive from the administration, council, colleagues, and the community to operate at the highest levels of this profession.”
