BRIDGEPORT, CT – Today, City officials joined Bridgeport Police Department members to announce that all police officers have begun wearing a body camera as required by HB 6004: An Act Concerning Police Accountability. In addition, effective today, all police patrol vehicles are now required to have a dashboard camera in the vehicle to assist with the preservation of public order, protect life and property as well as prevent, detect, or investigate crime.

Mayor Ganim stated, “I stand with supporters of this act and appreciate the State delegation that helped to make it happen. Mandatory body cameras are an effective method towards safeguarding accountability. The recorded film can also be used in training to ensure our Police Department is always improving on its ability to equitably and fairly protect and serve."

Although the Police Accountability Act was signed into law by Governor Lamont in 2020, the part of the act requiring body and dash cameras throughout the State of Connecticut goes into effect today, July 1, 2022.
