Bridgeport, CT – Bridgeport Public Library announces the temporary closing of the East Side Branch, 1174 East Main Street on Saturday, September 7, 2024, in order to begin a much anticipated renovation of the library.

The renovation project was awarded to Bismark Construction Company, Inc. in the spring and is expected to take approximately nine months to complete. The East Side Branch occupies the former Salvation Army Building on the corner of East Main Street and Shelton Street in the East Side neighborhood. When completed, the East Side Branch will have a new exterior, a community room on the first floor and an elevator leading to the newly renovated second floor that will have spaces for teen and children’s departments, study rooms and a state-of-the-art podcasting studio, all designed by local architectural firm, Antinozzi Associates, Inc. The ground-breaking ceremony will take place at the East Side Branch on Tuesday, October 8, 2024. The renovation project is funded in part with state bonding and is administered by the Connecticut State Library’s Division of Library Development.

Bridgeport Public Library’s Main Library and four other branches remain open. For locations and hours visit Bridgeport Public Library online at www.bportlibrary.org
