Bridgeport, CT – Mayor Ganim joins Chief Garcia to acknowledge the achievement of Tier I Connecticut Police Officer Standards and Training Council (POST-C) State Accreditation by the Bridgeport Police Department. POST-C State Accreditation is designed to provide Connecticut law enforcement agencies with a process which demonstrates the ability to provide accountability, transparency, and quality services by police officers in the communities they serve.

Mayor Ganim stated, “Public safety remains top priority for the City of Bridgeport and its residents. Joining the State of Connecticut’s POST-C Accreditation program is a testament to our Bridgeport Police Department and their ability to perform under high standards which will shape into lasting practices and positively contribute to the Department’s commitment of serving the community.”

Chief Garcia stated, “This is a very proud moment for the Bridgeport Police Department as we have accomplished a significant milestone.  The Bridgeport Police is the largest police department in the State of Connecticut to accomplish this goal.  Becoming accredited brings us closer to our mission of becoming even more transparent, practicing best practices and establishing better relationships with our community members.”

State Accreditation Standards guide agencies towards meeting the following goals:

• Strengthening crime prevention and control capabilities

• Formalizing essential management procedures

• Establishing fair and non-discriminatory personnel practices

• Improving service delivery

• Solidifying interagency cooperation and coordination

• Boosting citizen and staff confidence in the agency

The City of Bridgeport Police Department began the process of seeking this professional achievement in 2017 which began with an application and self-assessment phase followed by an on-site assessment by a trained assessor, and the POST Council review and decision phase. Daigle Law Group was hired by the Bridgeport Police Department to aid in the development of effective and constitutional policing practices which have been uploaded to the City of Bridgeport website where the public has been invited to provide feedback. State Accreditation will require yearly reporting and reaccreditation in four years. Bridgeport Police Department will immediately begin the process of seeking Tier 2 State Accreditation.
