3/8/2013 - Greater Bridgeport St. Patrick's Day Parade Celebration Set for Friday, March 15
The 2013 Greater Bridgeport Saint Patrick's Day Celebration is scheduled for Friday, March 15.

This year's mass and parade are dedicated to the memory of the "26 angels of Newtown."

The St. Patrick's Day festivities begin at 8 a.m. with a mass at St. Augustine Cathedral featuring the Laurelton Hall High School Choir.

Mayor Bill Finch will participate in the Irish flag raising held outside of City Hall, 45 Lyon Terrace, at 9:15 a.m.

The St. Patrick's Day Parade will kick off at 12 noon in Downtown Bridgeport.

Ed and Peg O’Connor of Fairfield have been named Grand Marshals of the 2013 Greater Bridgeport St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

With both sets of parents born in Ireland (Ed’s Mom, Co. Kerry, and his Dad, Co. Roscommon; Peggy’s parents, both from Co. Fermanagh), the O'Connors were raised in a truly Irish environment from their earliest years.

Growing up in the Bronx, New York, Ed graduated from Fordham University while Peggy graduated from Our Lady of Good Counsel College in White Plains, New York and received her M.A. from William Patterson University in New Jersey.

They married in September 1960, moved to Fairfield, Conn. with their four children, Deirdre, Maura, Danny, and Sheila in 1975, and are members of St. Pius X Church.

Ed is a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, President for Life of the Fairfield Garden Club, and Co-Founder of the Gaelic American Glee Club.

Peggy continues to host the Irish Melodies Radio Program on Sundays from Fairfield University and tutors a reading program at Geraldine Johnson School in Bridgeport.

The O’Connors are eagerly looking forward to a grand day on Friday, March 15 and invite all to share in the celebration of honoring St. Patrick.
