2/19/2013 - "Freckleface Strawberry -- The Musical" is Making History

Bridgeport venue makes history with show for autistic kids

A 2007 children's book by actress Julianne Moore -- "Freckleface Strawberry" -- inspired a hit 2010 off-Broadway musical that has been produced all over the country and as far afield as Australia.

The story of a girl who hates her red hair and freckles, but who learns that everyone struggles with a feeling of being "different," has struck a chord both as a book and a stage show.

Now "Freckleface Strawberry -- The Musical" is making history in Connecticut by becoming the first play in the state to have a special Sensory Sensitive Performance for autistic children after it opens at Bridgeport's Downtown Cabaret Theatre on Saturday, Feb. 23.
