2/1/2013 - The Green Team Named 'Champion in Action'
On Wednesday, Mayor Bill Finch visited Park City Green, a mattress recycling facility located on Iranistan Avenue, to take part in the presentation of the "Champion in Action" award to the Greater Bridgeport Community Enterprises ("The Green Team") by Citizens Bank and WTNH News 8.

Greater Bridgeport Community Enterprises (GBCE), a nonprofit community development corporation that creates new green businesses and jobs, is the first Champion in Action winner of 2013.

Park City Green, one of several GBCE programs, is a not-for-profit mattress deconstruction and materials recycling business. It is the only one of its kind in the Northeast.

"Park City Green is a great example of our BGreen 2020 vision for a cleaner, greener Bridgeport that creates jobs for our residents," said Mayor Bill Finch. "The mattress recycling facility is also a part of our eco-industrial park, which is attracting green businesses to our city. Congratulations to GBCE on this accomplishment and thank you Citizens Bank and WTNH."

Edward “Ned” O. Handy III, President, Citizens Bank, Connecticut and WTNH News 8 anchor/reporter Jocelyn Maminta presented
Adrienne Farrar Houël, President/CEO of the GBCE with a check for $35,000 on Wednesday.

The grant will be used to help GBCE establish its Green Business Hub – a central office location for the organization’s current and future green enterprises.

Additionally, GBCE is one of 74 organizations across the country competing in the Huffington Post and the Skoll Foundation's JobRaising Challenge, a crowd funding contest.
