MAYOR GANIM MEETS WITH CITY EMPLOYEE WHO TESTED POSITIVE, LOST MOTHER TO COVID-19
HEALTH DIRECTOR MORRISSEY REMINDS RESIDENTS TO PARTICIPATE IN COVID-19 TESTING
Bridgeport, CT - Mayor Ganim met with Salandra Grace, a Bridgeport resident and City employee, who tested positive for COVID-19. Salandra’s mother, Georgia, also contracted COVID-19 and ultimately passed away after virus-related complications.
Mayor Ganim stated, “We see COVID-19 stories on the news and throughout the country but, at the same time, it’s happening right here in our City with coworkers and family members. Don’t think it’s someplace else. What we are doing-- as best we can and with limited funding-- is making testing available for everyone in our community. It’s one of the only weapons we have against this devastating pandemic.”
Salandra stated, “You see it on the news and you think it’s not going to happen to you. Even though we were proactive, it still happened. If you have symptoms, get checked out. The City gives free tests, take advantage of that. Some days I hate wearing the mask but I know I have to wear it because of what happened to my mother and you want to protect the people around you.”
Health Director Lisa Morrissey reminds residents of all protective measures for their health and public safety. Wear a protective face covering and social distance when appropriate in public settings as well as while attending any place of business; restaurant or retail. Residents are also encouraged to be tested for COVID-19, information can be found at bridgeportct.gov/coronavirus.
