MAYOR GANIM, DIRECTOR BOND URGE RESIDENTS TO FOLLOW HALLOWEEN TIPS

GUIDELINES FOR SAFE TRICK-OR-TREATING

Bridgeport, CT –Today, Mayor Ganim and Bridgeport Health Director Maritza Bond joined to announce tips on how to stay safe and prevent hazards on Halloween. With today’s rainy weather forecast in mind, the tips begin with:
Walk, don’t run. Stay in a group and never cross between parked cars
Remain on well-lit streets, only approach homes with a porch light on
Wear bright, reflective costumes, bring a flashlight
Always accompany young children

“We urge parents of children gearing up in costumes this evening-- to please take the extra precaution tonight, especially with the wet and windy conditions,” Mayor Ganim said.

Just as the guidelines highlight the importance of safety outdoors, they also share information on how to prevent unsafe situations indoors and at home. Those tips include
Restrain pets appropriately
Read ingredients and check candy received – if the wrapper is open, throw it out
Remove tripping hazards on sidewalks and stairs for trick-or-treaters
