Press Release

Mayor Ganim, Health Director Bond Update Food Safety Alert on Romaine Lettuce

Origin Determined for Multi-State E.coli Outbreak

Bridgeport, CT – Mayor Ganim and Health Director Maritza Bond today are updating Bridgeport residents of the food safety alert on romaine lettuce that was released last week. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has revised its warning to consumers based on the origin of the romaine lettuce. The CDC and FDA are advising that U.S consumers not eat and retailers and restaurants not serve or sell any romaine lettuce harvested from the Central Coastal growing regions of northern and central California. Growers have agreed to label their romaine lettuce that is now entering the market. If product is not labeled, it should not be consumer, sold, or served.
For more information about how to prevent E. coli and for proper hand washing and food preparation tips go to the CDC website at www.foodsafety.gov.
