Press Release

Mayor Ganim, Superintendent Johnson to Wear Orange October 24 for Anti-Bullying Month
Unity Day to Celebrate October’s National Bullying Prevention Month

Bridgeport, CT – Mayor Ganim will join Superintendent Aresta Johnson for Bridgeport Public Schools (BPS) Unity Day as part of their Bullying Prevention Campaign for National Bullying Prevention Month. On October 24th all BPS staff will participate in Unity Day by wearing the color orange to support ending bullying and ensuring all youth are safe within Bridgeport schools.

During the entire month of October, Bridgeport Public Schools acknowledged the national effort, with tweets from the Superintendent’s office that will give out bullying prevention information (stats, resources, etc.) on a daily basis and share these points and tips with all district staff.

Additionally, a newly formed BPS team was developed in an effort to reduce the occurrence of bullying and increase positive school climate within the district. The committee has invited all stakeholders which includes administrators, support staff, students and parents to collaborate together to bring about systemic changes. The committee will focus on the following: identification of barriers for reporting bullying incidents, development and dissemination of strategies to promote prevention information, and establish district wide initiatives to promote positive school climate.
