Bridgeport Department of Health and Social Services to Kick Off 10th Season of East Side Farm Stand
SNAP Matching, Cooking Demonstrations and Local Produce Made Available to Bridgeport Residents
Bridgeport, CT- The City of Bridgeport Department of Health and Social Services will kick off the 10th season of the East Side Farm Stand on July 11, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at 752 East Main Street, Bridgeport, CT. The season kicks off with fresh, local produce from Cecarelli Farm of Northford, CT and light refreshments, as well as visits from: Bridgeport Library Bookmobile, Optimus Health Care, the UConn Health Husky Nutrition Program, and Chef Raquel from A Pinch of Salt.
To encourage residents to eat fresh produce, families who participate in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) will receive benefit matching. When customers spend with their SNAP card, $1 equals $2. The following forms of payment will also be accepted: EBT, SFMNP Checks, WIC, Credit, Debit, Cash and Bridgeport Bucks.
Cooking demonstrations, held on the second Wednesday of each month, will be taught by Chef Raquel from A Pinch of Salt. Recipes and nutrition information will be supplemented by the UConn Health Husky Nutrition Program and Optimus Health Care will provide free health advice and screenings.
In addition to health and nutrition services, educational and enrichment activities will also be available with the Bridgeport Library Bookmobile providing free reading materials, applications for library cards, library information, and a selection of 2,500 titles for checkout from books, DVDs, CDs, and Playaways to the visiting community.
