Notice of Potential Rehabilitation Action on Structures Located Within Floodplains

To all interested agencies, groups, and persons:

The purpose of this notice is to notify the public that the City of Bridgeport is proposing to use federal funds under the HUD Lead Hazard Control Grant. The proposed program could involve lead hazard control reduction activities and minor rehabilitation on residential properties within a FEMA designated 100-year floodplain areas.

The Lead Hazard Control Grant will be implemented in targeted census tracts throughout the City, therefore project sites could be located within Flood Zones A (areas of 100-year flooding and Zones V (areas of 100-year coastal flooding with velocity (wave action), as designated by the City’s Flood Insurance Rage Maps (09001C0426F FIRM). PURPOSE: To provide lead safe housing units that are occupied by children under the age of six or to be occupied by families with children under the age of six, especially if a child in residence has been identified with an elevated blood lead level. The grant funds will ensure that inspections to ascertain the existence of lead hazards will be conducted. That forms to determine the financial eligibility for financial assistance be completed and reviewed. To provide financial assistance for the remediation and or abatement of toxic sources of lead when eligibility requirements are met.

LOCATION: Lead prevention activities conducted with funds from this grant will be implemented citywide. At this time, no specific sites to conduct activities have been determined. Each specific site where remediation and or abatement activities will be conducted will be recorded on enrollment applications.

All affected and interested agencies groups and persons are encouraged to participate in this decision-making process regarding potential proposed actions in floodplains. Written comments for consideration by the City of Bridgeport may be sent to Audrey M. Gaines, Lead Program Director, Margaret E. Morton Government Center, Bridgeport Department of Health, 999 Broad Street, Bridgeport, CT 06604. Written comments should be received on or before May, 27, 2018.
