Mayor Ganim Joined Career Resources, Inc. HIRE ONE Reentry Career Fair in Recognition of National Reentry Month
Over 25 Employers Dedicated to Second Chance Opportunities Unite to Offer Jobs
Bridgeport, CT – In recognition of National Reentry Month, Mayor Joe Ganim joined Career Resources Inc. today as they hosted their second annual HIRE ONE Reentry Career Fair. Over 25 local employers in support of providing second chance opportunities came together to offer jobs to formerly incarcerated individuals.
“We are thankful for Career Resources, Inc. and the employers, partners and advocates who make opportunities and second chances available to reentry individuals,” said Mayor Ganim. “National Reentry Month is about recognizing that community support is critical and justice reform is needed to help meet the needs for those formally incarcerated. My administration and I are committed to MIRA and reentry services and I look forward to continuing these partnerships. Providing education and occupational resources to the thousands of returning citizens of Bridgeport remains our focus. Our goal is to provide opportunities for reentering citizens to join the workforce and become productive members of their family and community.”
Career Resources, Inc. employee and event coordinator, Ernie Newton said, “There is a need for this type of job fair. There are a lot of people who are facing barriers in terms of finding employment. At the same time there are a lot of employers who are willing to help. We are connecting the two.”
Local businesses interviewed candidates and accepted applications to meet their staffing needs. Some of the employers present included: Bridgeport Yale New Haven Hospital, Bridgeport Neighborhood Trust, Optimus Health Care, Key Bank, PosiGen, LAZ Parking and more.
