Mayor Ganim, Religious and Community Leaders Unite for Black History Month in Bridgeport
‘Faith, Unity and Peace’ and ‘A Hip Hop Expression of Black History’ will recognize the Role African Americans have Played in Our History
Bridgeport, CT – The City of Bridgeport is hosting two events dedicated to the history, culture and contributions African Americans have made for Black History Month. The festivities begin Tomorrow, February 16, 2017 at 5:30 p.m. with ‘Faith, Unity and Peace’. The celebrations continue on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. with A Hip Hop Expression of Black History: When It Was Hip Hop. Both of these events will take place at the Margaret E. Morton Government Center, 999 Broad Street, Bridgeport, CT 06604.
Black History Month Events:
- Faith, Unity and Peace: Black History Month Celebration
This event includes musical performances from the Graham Spratley Lighthouse Gospel Choir, featured art on display courtesy of City Lights, and keynote speaker Urban and Black Affairs Expert, Louis Reed with opening remarks from Mayor Joseph Ganim.
- A Hip Hop Expression of Black History: When it Was Hip Hop
This event, organized by My Brother’s Keeper, includes a Black historic art exhibit, a panel discussion on hip hop and youth violence, and award presentation. Activities include a DJ contest, break dancing and poetry.
Special invitations will be extended to founders of Hip-Hop including Kool Herc, Red Alert and various artists.
