Mayor Ganim, Career Resources Inc., The WorkPlace Kick Off 20th Annual Community Career Fair

Part Two of the Mayor’s Second Chance Awareness Month Brings Nearly 50 Local Employers Together for an Afternoon of Potential

Bridgeport, CT – Mayor Joe Ganim today joined Career Resources Inc. and The WorkPlace to kick off The 20th Annual Community Career Fair at Housatonic Community College. The region’s largest job fair was part of the Mayor’s Second Chance Awareness Month. The job fair drew hundreds of prospective employees from the region – including those with prior records looking for a second chance – who came dressed to impress with resumes in hand.

“This job fair is a tremendous opportunity for job seekers, including those who may have made a mistake in their past,” said Mayor Ganim. “This is also a great opportunity for all the participating employers to add qualified, eager candidates to their staff.  It’s not easy to ask for a second chance.  I am a second chance mayor and, through my example, my hope is that prospective employers can see someone who has accepted the help and good graces of others to take a step forward. Regardless of the mistakes one has made, everyone is entitled, and I hope society would agree, that citizens with past convictions deserve an opportunity to rejoin our economy. It would not be possible without all of the employers who have seen the potential value in these individuals and believe in giving a second chance.”
