Mayor Ganim Welcomes CT Dept. of Labor ‘Heroes 4 Hire South’ Veterans’ Career Fair to Bridgeport September 20th at University of Bridgeport

Bridgeport – Mayor Joe Ganim today is welcoming the Connecticut Department of Labor’s Heroes 4 Hire South career fair for Veterans in Fairfield County that will take place on September 20, 2016 at the University of Bridgeport’s Wheeler Recreation Center, 126 Park Avenue, Bridgeport. The event will run from 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.  Heroes 4 Hire South is sponsored by the Connecticut Department of Labor, the agency’s Office for Veterans’ Workforce Development (OVWD), the Connecticut Department of Veterans’ Affairs and Connoisseur Media, with the support of the University of Bridgeport.  Now in its 12th year, the agency’s Heroes 4 Hire career fairs have attracted more than 13,000 jobseekers and connected more than 1,000 employers with veterans.

“Connecticut Veterans have sacrificed so much to preserve our freedoms and the wonderful quality of life that we all take for granted every day, the least we can do is help these deserving men and women find employment,” said Mayor Ganim.  “This wonderful event has a clear track record of success and offers real opportunities to connect heroes who served their country in the military with employers looking for qualified candidates.  Bridgeport is proud to host this event!”

Veterans bring a strong sense of teamwork, organization and leadership skills to the workplace,” notes Terry Brennan, Director of the OVWD. “An accelerated learning curve allows them to enter the workforce with an advantage over many others. They offer potential employers transferrable skills that have been proven in real-life situations, efficient performance under pressure, and an understanding of the demands of tight schedules and limited resources.”

Companies exhibiting at Heroes 4 Hire South include: Applebee’s, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, EDR, Fairfield County Bank, Post University, Verizon and Whole Foods.  For additional details, including directions to the event and a list of participating companies and organizations, please contact Rowena White of Connoisseur Media at (203) 783-8328 or Rowena.White@ConnoisseurCT.com.
