Bridgeport, Conn (August 18, 2015) -- Bridgeport Police Officer Sheldon Mayne sustained serious injury in a motorcycle accident on Friday, August 14, 2015.
Officer Mayne is in critical condition at Hartford Hospital.
Friends, family, fellow police officers, and co-workers are asking people to keep Officer Mayne in their thoughts and prayers.
“Bridgeport Police Officers work relentlessly to keep our kids and families safe,” said Mayor Bill Finch. “To have what happened to Officer Mayne is truly heartbreaking.”
“My thoughts and prayers are with Officer Mayne and his family,” said Bridgeport Police Chief Joe Gaudett, Jr. “He is a great officer, brother, son, and uncle. The entire Bridgeport Police Department hopes he makes a full and speedy recovery.”
“Becoming a police officer is a special calling and when one of us need support we come together like a family,” said Sergeant Chuck Paris, President of the Bridgeport Police Union. “Sheldon Mayne is that brother that needs assistance.”
