“This is just another example of a Bridgeport native making a name for herself in the career of her choice. We’re extremely proud of Alyssa and her accomplishments, wish her luck, and encourage everyone to watch her and the rest of the U.S. Women’s Team in the final game of the World Cup.” – Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch
Bridgeport, Conn. (July 5, 2015) – Today, Mayor Finch is asking Bridgeport residents to root for the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team and Bridgeport native Alyssa Naeher in this evening’s World Cup final.
The U.S. team beat out Germany 2-0 this past Tuesday and will face defending champion Japan in the finals. A proud moment for Bridgeport as one of their own could potentially be a member of a World Cup championship team.
“This is just another example of a Bridgeport native making a name for herself in the career of her choice,” said Mayor Bill Finch. “We’re proud of Alyssa and her accomplishments, wish her luck, and encourage everyone to watch her and the rest of the U.S. Women’s Team in the final game of the World Cup.”
Naeher was born in Bridgeport in 1988, along with her twin sister, Amanda.
After winning the Golden Glove as the best goalkeeper in the 2008 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, things only got better for the professional goalkeeper.
Since then, she has built an astounding record in her professional athletic career by starting for the Boston
Breakers Soccer Club, making a record breaking number of saves in the National Women’s Soccer League, and winning the 2014 NWSL Goalkeeper of the Year award.
