“As a father, and as mayor of our state’s largest city, I’ve seen firsthand how tough it is for kids who don’t have pre-k access. And research is clear: If kids aren’t reading at the level they should be by third grade, they’re less likely to graduate. That’s why pre-k access for all kids in Bridgeport is so important, and I want to thank Gov. Malloy for his commitment to helping us get to universal pre-k access in our state’s largest city.” – Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch
Bridgeport, Conn. (March 3, 2015) – This week, Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch applauded Gov. Malloy for announcing that 60 new pre-k seats are coming to the state’s largest city.
Malloy for his commitment to helping us get to universal pre-k access in our state’s largest city.”
The announcement was part of Gov. Malloy’s larger installment of more than $3.5 million in state funding for pre-k being awarded to fourteen towns and cities across Connecticut.

This week’s news means that the Park City has received a total of 366 new pre-k seats from the federal and state government over the past year.
Last year, Mayor Finch advocated for a bill, which was passed by the state legislature and signed into law by Gov. Malloy, resulting in Bridgeport receiving 126 new pre-k seats.
In December, the federal government announced that 180 additional pre-k seats would be coming to the state’s largest city.
And, with today’s announcement, that will bring the total amount of pre-k seats available to kids in Bridgeport to 3,848.
