“Bridgeport needs strong friends in order to bring about our vision for the city and its future. President Obama is a strong friend. Governor Malloy is a strong friend. Working together, we are helping make Bridgeport better every day.” – Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch
Bridgeport, Conn. (October 30, 2014) – Background: Today, the Connecticut State Democratic Party announced that President Barack Obama and Governor Dan Malloy will be holding a rally at Bridgeport Central High School on the afternoon of Sunday, November 2, 2014. In response, Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch made the following statement:
“We’re thrilled that President Obama and Gov. Malloy will be making a joint appearance in Bridgeport this weekend. As Mayor, it’s my job is to make Bridgeport an even better city – a place where our kids and grandkids will choose to live, work, and raise their families, too. That’s why I’ve been focused on boosting confidence in our city – so others will join you and me as champions of our city. This change is already happening – the re-opening of Pleasure Beach after years of neglect, breaking ground on Steelpointe Harbor after decades of broken promises, improving downtown, and building a second train station.
“A lot has been done. But much remains. One thing is clear: None of this would be happening without the help of my friends President Obama and Gov. Malloy. President Obama has shown leadership on the economy, on the environment, and on believing that America’s best days are ahead of us. It’s a spirit that inspires us all every single day.
"And, Gov. Malloy has stood tall with Bridgeport from the start. He’s a true friend we can rely on. He’s investing in Steelpointe Harbor becoming a reality. He’s investing in building a second train station. He’s investing in making our streets safe by banning assault weapons. And, he’s investing in a better life for hardworking people by increasing the minimum wage. Bridgeport needs strong friends in order to bring about our vision for the city and its future. President Obama is a strong friend. Gov. Malloy is a strong friend. Working together, we are helping make Bridgeport better every day.”
