8/1/2014 - New Bridgeport solar company honored nationally

Goldman Sachs is recognizing the chief executive officer of Bridgeport’s newest solar company, PosiGen Solar Solutions, as one of the 100 Most Intriguing Entrepreneurs of 2014 at its Builders & Innovators Summit in Santa Barbara, Calif.

Thomas Neyhart will be one of 100 entrepreneurs from multiple industries to be honored at the three-day event in October. As the CEO of PosiGen, Neyhart and co-founder Aaron Dirks created a business that benefits the environment while helping its customers save money on their utility bills.

PosiGen utilizes a program combining solar leasing with energy efficiency upgrades and energy education to offer low-to-moderate income homeowners their first opportunity to participate in the residential solar boom.

“It is remarkable to be recognized among such a stellar group of national business leaders,” Neyhart said. “While it is an individual award, this is really a testament to the hard work, dedication and talent of the more than 150 employees and 100 subcontractors working for PosiGen. I share this award with my co-founder and all of our wonderful employees. Our greatest success is that we continually improve the lives of our more than 4,000 customers, and we add more people to that list every day.”

PosiGen also was recently recognized by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce as a 2014 Small Business of the Year and as a Patriotic Employer by the Secretary of Defense for hiring veterans.

“We are honored to recognize Tom as one of the most intriguing entrepreneurs of 2014,” said David Solomon, co-head of investment banking at Goldman Sachs. “This is the third year for the summit and we continue to be amazed by what happens when a diverse group of seasoned and emerging entrepreneurs — the builders and innovators — come together to discuss how to drive innovation, create jobs and build enduring organizations.”

For more than 140 years, Goldman Sachs has been advising and financing entrepreneurs as they launch and grow their businesses. In addition to honoring 100 entrepreneurs, the summit consists of general sessions and clinics led by Goldman Sachs experts, seasoned entrepreneurs, academics and business leaders, as well as resident scholars.

National solar industry groups also recognized the honor.

“The Alliance for Solar Choice applauds PosiGen’s innovation, entrepreneurship, and leadership in rooftop solar,” said Anne Smart, executive director of TASC. “PosiGen reflects the greatest in our industry — groundbreaking creativity that helps more families go solar.”
