5/9/2014 - Bluefish Will Host Inaugural Mayor's Homerun Luncheon
(Bridgeport, Conn. – May 9, 2014) – The Bridgeport Bluefish along with co-sponsor, the BRBC today announced they will be hosting an inaugural Mayor’s Homerun Luncheon with two separate events to help benefit the Junior Achievement of Western Connecticut.
“I am excited to partner with the Bridgeport Bluefish and the BRBC to host the Home Run Luncheon, bringing people together in a great setting for an excellent cause,” said Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch. “Thank you to Junior Achievement of Western Connecticut for providing Bridgeport students with the tools to succeed in the business world. Please join us on May 27 at the Ballpark’s Harbor Club and help support Junior Achievement.”
The first event will be a pre-luncheon meet and greet with two-time Major League All Star Gary Gaetti from 11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. in the Harbor Club where all those in attendance will receive a new customized Bluefish Batting Practice Jersey. The second event will be a luncheon with Bluefish players and Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch from 12:15 p.m. to 1:15 p.m. on The Ballpark at Harbor Yard concourse.
“The Bluefish have successfully partnered with several non-profit groups in 2014 through our partnership series of events. We will “ring in spring” by assisting a great Bridgeport based charity, Junior Achievement of Western Connecticut,” said Bluefish general manager Ken Shepard. “Junior Achievement helps empower thousands of students in Western Connecticut prepare for their future. The Mayor’s Homerun Luncheon hosted by Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch and co-sponsored by the Bridgeport Regional Business Council will be a homerun for JA and the community.”
Gary Gaetti played 20 years in the Major Leagues where he was a member of the Minnesota Twins during the first ten seasons of his career before playing with the California Angles, Kansas City Royals, St. Louis Cardinals, Chicago Cubs and Boston Red Sox. Gaetti won the 1987 World Series title with the Twins and was a two-time MLB All-Star. He also won the 1995 Silver Slugger award and 1987 ALCS MVP, and was a four-time Gold Glove Award winner. In 1987 Gaetti became the first player ever to hit two home runs in his first two postseason plate appearances. He is currently the Sugar Land Skeeters manager.
