Exercise – Looking to stay in shape? The Eisenhower Senior Center is equipped with exercise equipment available for Bridgeport seniors to use daily from 8:00AM to 3:00PM. Stationary bikes, treadmills and hand weights are available free of charge. In addition to workout equipment, our centers also offer some classes to help you stay in shape.
All centers provide a daily schedule of exercise activities.
Knitting and Crochet: Nina is the instructor and her class is every Wednesday from 10:00am to 12:00pm. The seniors really enjoy this class as it grows daily. They are taught how to make hats, scarves, socks etc on knitting looms and also by free hand using knitting needles or crochet hooks. This is a great way for them to express themselves, socialize and help each other with their projects.
Art Therapy: Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 3:00pm. This exercise helps them to relax and focus. It's also for good fine motor skills and helps strengthen the muscles on the hands.
Ceramics: Be artistic and have fun in a friendly ceramics class! Audrey will assist you with the instruction and materials you need. Make great gifts from our huge selection. Whether you need to stay active or want to express your artistic flare, ceramics is for you! No experience necessary. You will learn all the basic skills necessary to create beautiful projects for beginners or those who have enjoyed this art before. Choose your own projects from the shelf and turn plain clay sculptures into beautiful work of art. Open to all Bridgeport Seniors, Tuesdays & Thursdays from 10:00am to 3:00pm. You may bring your own lunch with you or have lunch at the Eisenhower Center. There is a refrigerator and microwave available. Snacks are also available for purchase. This is a smoke-free, wheelchair accessible environment. Registration may be made through the Eisenhower Center by calling (203) 576-7993.
BINGO: Come join us with our new modernized bingo machines or play traditional bingo twice a week at our centers. Open to all Bridgeport Seniors. No reservations necessary. Bingo is held at the locations.
We also have a HUGE BINGO BLAST every third Thursday of the month at the Eisenhower Center. All seniors are welcome and encouraged to come. Lunch will be sold.
Pokeno: If you like Bingo, this is game that is a combination of poker and keno! It is alot of fun for 12 people at a time and is played using regular playing cards and the pokeno board.
Computer: The Eisenhower Center has a Computer Room with six workstations available to seniors between the hours of 8:00am to 3:00pm daily. Each workstation is internet ready. Seniors can search the internet, send/access email or just use the word processing programs. Some assistance provided.
Billiards: The Eisenhower Center has 2 billiard tables – come on down and play a game of 8 ball, 9 ball. North End Bethany Center has 1 pool table.
Painting: As a senior, are you looking for a relaxed setting that encourages creativity that is fun and well-paced? The painting instructor is great and talented in various painting styles. Classes are offered at the Eisenhower Center & Black Rock center every other Friday. Please call each center for information.
