Every year, Christmas trees are collected and brought to the City landfill to be repurposed. The trees are converted into mulch to beautify the 48 parks and City-owned buildings throughout Bridgeport.
Christmas tree collection will begin on Monday, January 8, 2018 and continue until Monday, February 5, 2018. The City of Bridgeport is asking residents not to place Christmas trees curbside before Monday, January 8, 2018 to avoid safety hazards.
In previous years, the City has collected over 1,673 tons of leaves and grass clippings that were turned into compost and over 50 tons of tree limbs, brush, stumps and Christmas trees that were turned into mulch. This recycling process saves Bridgeport taxpayers an estimated cost of more than $150,000 which is broken down into $121,000 savings in disposal costs for leaves and shrubbery and additional $31,000 saved in lieu of purchasing compost and mulch for city parks.
