Snow Removal Tips

Parking

  • If possible, park vehicles off the streets during a storm and for up to 36 hours after a storm.
  • You must move your vehicle every 48 hours from where it is parked.
  • Park as close to the curb as possible.

Driving

  • Please do not pull out in front of or attempt to pass a snowplow.
  • Never tailgate a snowplow truck. Stay at least 200 feet away from plows at all times. If you can't see the mirrors on the truck, they can't see you.
  • Beware of snowplow trucks backing up. Be sure to give them plenty of room.
  • Be alert and drive with caution. Remember that winter storms create slick road conditions. Maintain safe distances between other vehicles and decrease your normal driving speeds to allow for additional time to stop. If possible, put snow tires on your vehicle.

Other Tips

  • When snow is in the forecast, plan your trips to the grocery store, bank etc. before it snows. The less traffic we have to deal with, the faster we can work.
  • Don't allow children to play on or near the street when snow plowing/ice control is in progress.
  • Beware when walking or cycling, as the snow coming off the snowplow can be dangerous.
  • Residents who remove snow from their driveways or sidewalks are reminded that municipal ordinances prohibit placing snow or ice on any public street.
  • Help your neighbors with snow removal. People who are elderly or people with disabilities may need assistance with meeting their obligation as property owners to remove snow from adjacent sidewalks.
